Ottawa Sportsmen's Club News International Black Powder Matches 2010
Jon Henkel, OSC Black Powder Match Chairman
In 2007 during our monthly shoots we shot postal targets
against a Canadian Club from Sudbury (the Sudbury Voyageurs
Muzzle Loading Rifle Club). The idea of the postal was
generated by the Canadians. The response of the group shooting
at OSC was very positive, so we continued in 2008. Since 2009 a
third group from Menominee, MI has joined us in this
Internatioanl Match.
The postal shoot works this way: three targets were designed
by the local shoot coordinator (Henkel) and three targets were
designed by the Canadian coordinator (Ron Morrison). The local
group shoots its targets on the 1st Saturday of each month from
January through June as part of the group's monthly shoots. As
you recall, we shoot about 18 shots at our shoots. Six of the
eighteen shots are on the paper targets that count towards the
postal. The Sudbury group shoots its targets on the 1st Sunday
of each month for the same period.
Ron Morrison sends me the Canadian group’s top five targets. I
score all of the local group’s targets and the five Canadian
targets. The top five scores from each club are pitted against
each other to determine a winning team. Every shooter who
participated in the shoot is considered 'on the team'. However,
only the top five are counted against the Canadians. The reason
for the top five only counters is because the two clubs do not
necessarily have the same number of shooters each month.
The Menominee group does likewise.
This year the results are as follows, monthly winners in
