UPMLA-Sponsored Team Postal Matches for 2012
The UPMLA sponsors a team postal competition among several muzzle
loading clubs. The competition takes place monthly for six
months, January through June.
The 2012 participating clubs: the Menominee Ridge Runners
from Northern Wisconsin, the Blue Water Sportsman's Association of
Port Huron in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan (Link to Blue
Water club web site), and the Baraga Blackpowder Bunch shootng
at the Ottawa Sportsmen's Club in Michigan (Link to Ottawa club
web site)
How it works: Each month, the shooters at each club
fire six shots at a paper target 25 yards from the firing line.
The five highest scoring shots on each target count toward the
target score of 50 points maximum. Each club submits its targets
to a common scoring person. The best five targets from each club
make up the clubs' scores to determine the monthly winning club.
The scorer mails the targets back to the clubs with a set of
targets for the next month's shooting.
The targets often show a good bit of imagination and artistry.
Frequently some careful planning before shooting is necessary to
decide how to place the shots to maximize the score.
The competition is for fun and glory. (In former years when the
Voyageurs Muzzle Loading Rifle Club from Sudbury, Canada, took
part in the competition, an International Trophy was awarded to
the club with the most monthly wins at the end of the shooting
season.)
